Welcome to my website. My name is Mrs. Downey. I teach Third Grade at Polk School. My room number is 209.

Our day begins promptly at 8:50. Attendance, lunch count, etc. begin at that time. Anyone who arrives after 8:50 should go to the office for a late pass and that student is considered tardy. Anyone who is absent is responsible to complete missing class work and missing homework. All assignments are gathered in folders on students' desks. Some students may need extra time to complete these missed assignments. They may stay in during recess on days that I do not have recess duty for extra help.

Daily Homework Assignments

All homework assignments are given before the end of each day. We write our assignments in our Polk School Agenda. Homework assignments are generally given Monday through Thursday.

Math - Study your addition and subtraction facts through 20. We're currently working on time and multiplication facts 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10.  These are the multiplication facts that may be on the CMT in March.

Spelling -  There is a Spelling Test each Friday.  Spelling workbooks are sent home on a regular basis, usually once a week.

Reading - Please encourage your child to read each night for at least 15 minutes.  Initial your child's assignment pad when this is accomplished.

Science/Social Studies - Complete assigned worksheets that correspond to chapter being studied.  Once a new chapter is begun, we usually talk about regular quizzes and tests.  Books can go home at any time to study for chapter tests.

General Classroom Information

Can't wait until spring!!

Every child is provided with a creative writing journal at the beginning of the school year.

Each child is responsible to bring a chapter book to class each day.

When children are finished with an assignment they might want to write in their journal or read in their chapter book.

Connecticut Mastery Tests begin on Monday, March 4th.  They are scheduled to be given through Wednesday, March 13th for third graders.  Be sure to watch for informational parents' meeting.
