Fall  Highlights

Math- We will start the year with place value and addition and subtraction problems. PLEASE STUDY YOUR FACTS!!!  Students must know their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts as we will be using them for the rest of the year as we move forward in our math curriculum. NOW  is the time to make sure you know your basic facts!!!

Social Studies- We will be reviewing map skills and landform regions.  Then, we will learn about the earliest people that lived in the New World, the Native Americans. It is VERY important to learn the vocabulary and to reread each lesson at home. It is so much easier to learn the material in small "bites" rather than large chunks!!

Reading- We will be reading a variety of  materials including short stories and nonfiction articles from our new reading books. We will be talking about connections and how to answer open-ended questions by starting with a topic sentence and using details from the text.  Ask your child about connections; you will be surprised to see what they can do!!   We will also be  working on drp(degrees of reading power) passages in preparation for the grade 5  CMT test. DON'T FORGET- DEAR will be on Thursday during library, please have a book to read!!!!

Language- We will be working on our proofreading and editing skills.  We will also work on usage, grammar, and mechanics.

Writing- We'll be doing  expository writing.  Don't worry if you don't remember how to do it ; we'll do lots of reviewing.  Remember to have 5 paragraphs and three main ideas.  Don't forget about elaborating with specific details!!!

Parents, I request that all tests and quizzes be signed except for weekly Spelling tests. Thank you!
