| Math: Place value will be the talk in math this month. We will begin the year with some graphing of favorites and then we will be moving on to place value of whole numbers and decimals. Students will be taking a math test the first week of school that will be a way of showing growth. The same test will be administered at the end of the year to see how much we have learned over the course of fifth grade! |
Language: We have a new reading and language program this year. I have not yet seen the program in its entirety, but I am excited about using it. The program is a thematic program that will tie all of language, writing, and reading together. This will make for a more fluent year! Please ask students to have a book to read during silent reading times. We will be having silent reading every day and students will be required to write in a journal about their reading. |
Science: What is an electron, proton, or neutron? What creates electricity? These are questions that your children will be able to answer as we journey into the world of electricity and magnetism. We will work in a very hands on fashion to create a knowledge base and understanding for your students. |

| Social Studies: Please check Mrs. Coon's website to find specific information on where students are in their learning and what they should be working on. |
