| Welcome to the Polk School Physical Education Home-Page! Attention Polk Elementary School students, staff and parents. The second week of the walking program is underway and off to a great start!! There is still space open to join for students, parents and teachers! If you are interested, please come to Polk School at 8 a.m. on either Wednesday or Thursday mornings. Thank you to all of those currently involved and I look forward to seeing new faces. Beginning September 30th and continuing until November 7th, 4th grade students will be taking part in the Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment. Parents will receive a letter in the mail detailing the tests along with some things students can do to prepare for the test. Good Luck to all!! P.E. RULES I feel that students need to take an active role in class and should be given the opportunity to create their own rules. I believe in three basic rules. I will also ask the students to create their own rules, two of which will be official class rules followed throughout the year. My rules: 1.. Students must RESPECT other students in class, themselves, and the equipment and must also BE SAFE!! 2. In order to participate in P.E. class the students are required to wear their sneakers. 3. Students must HAVE FUN!!! Student rules: 1. Raise your hand if you have a question. 2. Be a good sport if you win or lose. GRADING Grades in Physical Education at this level are based on a few things. Written tests, or skill tests are not administered at this level. Their grade is based on their dress (being prepared with sneakers) and their effort. P.E. OUTCOMES I feel at this age it is more important to keep the students active throughout the entire lesson. They should want to come to P.E. class and participate in a physical activity. I believe my purpose is to make class educational and as fun as possible to foster good feelings and attitudes about physical activity. The more they enjoy Physical Education class, the better chance that attitude will carry over outside of school and they will want to engage in some sort of physical activity at home. 2008-2009 YEAR OUTLINE September - Cooperative Games/Football October - CT Fitness Test 4th Graders/Cooperative games and soccer for other grades November - Team Handball December - Dribbling Sports January - Basketball February - Volleyball March - Floor Hockey April - Cooperative Games May - Wiffle Ball June - Kickball CONTACT INFORMATION Polk School Phone Number: 1-860-945-4840 Email Address: kuslismy@watertownctschools.org I apologize for not being at open house, I had graduate school classes.
